The Heavy Anchor in St. Louis brought in some amazing talent when hosting this show. Doc Otis, A gypsyesque, Jazz-Inspired, Swing-Infused saxophone guitar duo, takes the stage and people just listen. Images of Mardi Gras flash though your head as your hear their perfectly executed jams with a ideal touch of gruff and character in their voices.
Guitarist and Singer Josh Miller soothes the room with funky rhythm and ideal tone. Jamming on his acoustic electric fender cutaway, he blends perfectly to fill the room with a cajun sounds.
Saxophone player, Shane Ferguson, absolutely nails the incredibly well written scales that lend to the authentic flavor of this two man ensemble. Singing in character and humoring the crowd during the set, I could see that this group is driven to deliver a memorable performance.
As the set went on and time became a question, the audience wasn't having it, with plenty of calls to "play another". This band blended perfectly with the venue's great ambience. This show was a breath of fresh air and music diversity that I really enjoyed to see. Between the bands desire to perform and the venues friendly staff, this will definitely be a venue I revisit in the future.
